At the end of 1940 during the closing days of the Battle of Britain, front line RAF squadrons began to receive the Spitfire Mk.II. This new version had superior combat capabilities to the earlier Mk.I, the most notable upgrades being the more powerful Merlin XII engine and Rotol propeller unit. Armament was also changed in the Mk.IIb variant, with a pair of Hispano MkII 20mm cannons replacing four of the eight Browning .303 machine guns retained in the Mk.IIa. Delivery was completed in short order, and by April 1941 most Mk.I airframes had been transferred to Operational Training Units. The Spitfire Mk.II along with the first Mk.Vs saw significant action during the RAF “Circus” and “Rhubarb” operations throughout 1941.
The landing gear can be modelled as lowered or retracted, as well as optional bladeless propeller spinners to represent the aircraft in flight.
